Breast Cancer Detection Tips

1.7 million new cases of breast cancer are identified in worldwide each year. Statistically, 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime and breast cancer is known to be the 2nd leading cause of death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Knowing how to properly detect breast cancer early is one of the most detrimental steps in identifying whether or not you may be at risk. Here are some steps to take when determining whether or not you may be a carrier:

Screening exams: Screenings such as mammograms can be an impactful way of detecting breast cancer in its early stages, when it is most easily cured. Women ages 40 and older should have yearly screenings and should continue to do so as long as they are in good health.

Breast Self Exam (BSE): Self-exams can also play a role in determining whether or not you may have breast cancer. This is typically recommended for women age 20-30. Women who choose to do BSE should have their BSE technique reviewed during their physical exam by a health professional.

MRI: In some cases, with women who have higher risks of breast cancer, an MRI in addition to a mammogram may be necessary to detect breast cancer. This includes women with a family history of breast cancer or who have had radiation therapy to the chest when they were between the ages of 10 and 30.

It is most important to consult your healthcare professional regarding what detection methods may be best for you. There is one thing that can be universally expressed among physicians everywhere: don’t wait. If you have not employed any of these methods in your past, see your doctor to plan a regimen that works for you!

Drive Pink--What difference can we make?

As October came to a close, we were finally able to tally up just how much we were able to raise for our breast cancer awareness program, Drive Pink. We are so excited to make our donation in the amount of $1,887.00!
The donation has been made to the KU Cancer Center Breast Cancer Patients in Need Fund. We are overjoyed with all of the support that was shown by patients and employees alike! We cannot express our appreciation enough.

From the outset of developing our breast cancer awareness program, we knew that we wanted our donation to be used to help local patients in the Kansas City area. We wanted to be able to make an impact in our city, to our neighbors and friends, and those women who are already affected by breast cancer. It will be used to support their existing needs by covering the cost of items that will help make life a little more tolerable while going through what is likely the most difficult process any human being can go through. Items such as books, blankets, and other needed amenities that they simply are unable to afford on their own due to the overwhelming expenses of patient care. With so many fundraisers benefiting the research-side of breast cancer, we wanted to make sure those who are already affected are considered as well. Thank you, everyone, once again for you continued support. We will be running this program again next year and hope for equal or even better results! You have truly made a difference in many local women's lives!

Superior Lexus North + Chris Cakes = $400+ Raised for Breast Cancer Patients!

This past Saturday was our big Drive Pink pancake breakfast event! If you weren't able to make it, take a look at all the pancake-flipping action, then read on to learn more about how the donations will be used!
Can you spot the pancake in the air?

 Nice catch!

Some of the folks enjoying some pancakes for a good cause!

More of the event in action!

We absolutely MUST give a big thank you to the Superior Collision Center for sponsoring this event, as we couldn't have done it without them. This only proves how great of a team we have down at our Collision Center, so don't forget about them if you ever need any exterior repair work. Also, a big thanks to Chris Cakes for the pancakes, sausage and Tang! Everything was delicious, and it was served with a lot of flair!

We appreciated everyone who participated, especially the folks over at Worth Harley Davidson. The support our Saturday event received meant $430.00 in donations to the University of Kansas Breast Cancer Patients in Need Fund! This money will help many patients already affected by breast cancer, which is sometimes a cause that is overlooked. Thanks to everyone for helping us make our pancake breakfast a success!
