Congrats December Salesperson of the Month

Congratulations once again to Lance Swenson, our December Salesperson of the Month for the North team. Lance continues to be a steady performer for going on 5 years now. A two time Presidents Award winner, Lance loves what he does, and it shows. A St. Joseph resident, Lance makes the journey south at least 5 times a week. "I love what I do. It's an easy drive when you enjoy your job," Lance states.

"It's always a pleasure to have an employee that works as hard as Lance," says General Manager Randy Crowell, "and of course he still furnishes those devilish tasty donuts for the Saturday morning sales meeting."

Great job Lance! Thanks again for the hard work, dedication, and of course the St. Joseph donut delivery.

Way to Go Tarek, Heather and Michael!

Here is what one of our customers had to say....

"A few weeks ago, my daughter's car was in an accident and it put her in the market to replace the vehicle.  It was a situation that gave Danielle a fair amount of stress and she was worrying about what type of car to get, how long it would take to transact, the associated costs and all of those things that go along with a vehicle purchase.  Add to it that this was to be "her" first car transaction, with her name on the title and her name on the payment slips.  All of those things that she didn't have to consider when it was "Mom and Dad" doing the transaction suddenly came to the forefront.

Her boyfriend, David, was helping her in the search process and contacted your dealership with a list of the general features she wanted in a car.  The best match turned out to be a 2007 Acura TSX (stock ID H0121-2).  They made an appointment to meet with Heather Marzan on Monday the 3rd.  As it turned out when they arrived, Heather was with another customer ('unforeseen circumstances' are a fact of life.....).  As a result, Danielle worked with Tarek Jebali to take a look at the car and discuss it.  She immediately bonded with it and started the process to buy it.  At this point, the phone calls start working the route.  She called Mom and, in turn, Mom called me.  I left the office (thanks for that excuse...) and met her your location.  We walked into a very relaxed and professional environment, which was a pleasant change from past experiences with other dealerships.  Danielle was smiling, I asked if this was the car she wanted and she said 'yes'. 

Tarek worked with her to answer all of her questions and provide her with all of the necessary information that would take place in the process.  He kept the process moving along, answered all of Mom's questions and handled everything in a professional and timely manner. 

Heather also stopped a few times to make sure that everything was going well.  It was a very thoughtful act to check in on things and offer whatever assistance she could provide.

At the conclusion of the paperwork, Michael Arnone handed her a pen and explained everything to her.  As she asked questions, he provided straightforward answers and made sure that she understood everything along the way. 

At the closure, she was quite surprised to see the car pulled into the building and freshly-washed.  Tarek took her on a walk-around of the vehicle, pointed out the various controls and even pointed out the location of the "brain" for the navigation system in the trunk.  Once again, he worked to make sure she had all of her questions answered. 

Both Mary and I wanted to pass along the compliments and appreciation to Tarek, Heather and Michael for their work to make it a smooth transaction for Danielle.  We will certainly keep your firm in mind for any future automobile transactions and won't hesitate to offer you guys up as a recommendation to anyone in the market.  Please pass along the compliments to them."

Employee Spotlight

A familiar smile too many of you, Delivery Coordinator Kathy Groenenboom is this month’s spotlight employee at Superior Lexus North.  Kathy is the original Delivery Coordinator at the dealership, actually starting a couple of months before the store was officially opened.
A small town girl from Brunswick, Missouri, Kathy moved to Kansas City to work for Vanguard Airlines where she was a Flight Attendant and Instructor for 8 years.  “I miss it sometimes when I see the planes taking off.  You meet so many nice people in the air.  Being a Lexus Delivery Coordinator is very similar to being a flight attendant, in that you have the opportunity to get .

to know new people every day.  Of course it’s always fun when you have a reunion with a previous customer.  The interaction with so many great people, that’s the best part.” 
“Kathy is point and shoot”, says General Manager Randy Crowell.  “Our customers (and our sales people) love Kathy’s enthusiasm and knowledge.  She is so wonderfully thorough and engaged with each delivery.  She personally inspects each vehicle for cleanliness before beginning her flawless presentation and explanation.  Kathy enjoys fellowshipping with each new or pre-owned owner, and it shows.  She never gets in a hurry, and loves questions.  She is simply wonderful at what she does.”

Employee Spotlight - Barry Robinson


For 17 years our December Spotlight Employee has been smiling and serving. “Everyone knows when Barry is around,” says GM Randy Crowell. “I have yet to see Barry in a sour mood. If you have worked here any time at all you are aware of Barry’s signature greeting of ‘Howdy Doodie’, and it is guaranteed to be accompanied with a smile and laugh.”


Don’t let his light hearted nature fool you; Barry Robinson is an extremely bright and talented Certified Master Technician. His work is second to none, and he is very knowledgeable about our product. Barry is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to the Lexus product. However, if you are planning on walking and talking to Barry, you better wear skates. His energy level is off the charts; he is a blur as he moves about the dealership.

A Kansas City native, Barry and wife of 14 years Lisa, have two daughters, Ashley and Hayley. When not at the dealership Barry enjoys tinkering with cars, and he looks forward to watching a good movie.

We are just glad he spends his days here with us.

A Few Questions With The Service Department...

This week, I went to Rob Ramsey, our Service Manager to get answers to some commonly asked questions about Superior Lexus North and Lexus vehicles.

1. What is the difference between a dealership oil change and an oil change you get at a chain?
We have factory trained technicians, Genuine Lexus Parts, we wash and vacuum the car and we provide each vehicle with a complementary Know Your Vehicle Report.

2. What is the process to certify a Lexus technician? Why is that important?
Several days of training with Lexus in a classroom setting, web based courses and you have to be ASE Certified.

3. Can I put regular gas in my Lexus? Why or why not?
Lexus vehicles are designed to run most efficient using premium fuel. If you use regular fuel you will experience a long crank time, poor acceleration performance, poor idling, poor fuel mileage and less life on internal engine parts.

4. What differentiates a certified pre-owned vehicle from other preowned cars?
Certified Pre-Owned Lexus have to go thru a six page inspection process, meet the requirements of the inspections and Lexus has an inspector come out once a quarter to inspect all Certified Pre-Owned vehicles to make sure there are no mistakes.

5. Do you provide service loaners? What other services do you provide for your customers?
We do provide service loaners but not for all services. We also offer shuttle, airport shuttle, early bird/night drop, and express services.

6. How often do I have to get service done on my Lexus?
Service is required every 6 months or 5000 miles whichever comes first.

7. Can I service my car at a Toyota dealership?
You can service at Toyota but it does not keep record with the Lexus National Data.

8. What is a run-flat tire? How does it work?
A run flat tire is a tire with a hard side wall that will support the vehicle for up to 50 miles of driving with no air in the tire.

Racing to Save Lives!


Hendrick Automotive Group and the Be The Match Foundation have teamed up once again to bring hope to those afflicted with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases with the “Racing to Save Lives” 5k and 1k half marathon. The event takes place Sunday, September 26th at 8:00 am at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. Participants will be able to take part in a 1k or 5k race, as well as the Kids’ Dash for budding philanthropists.

The IS-F and The Autobahn

Feel the wind in your hair as you deftly slice across the hot pavement. Seconds feel like hours as the speedometer shoots forward, pumping past 60 mph and climbing ever higher. You catch your breath as everything outside the car becomes a blur. Right now, it’s just you, the track and your Lexus IS-F.

An experience that some very lucky IS-F owners’ will soon get to enjoy, thanks to two brand new Lexus IS-F initiatives.

The first, the Lexus Owners’ Performance Driving Experience, will reward 20 loyal Lexus owners with the complimentary opportunity to push their Lexus to the limit in Joliet, Illinois, on the Autobahn Country Club race track, compete in a timed autocross and experience the thrill of hot laps in the Lexus IS-F.
